Dalton Chinese New Year Celebration and Culture Week
Dalton is a child-centered, dual language school that strongly emphasizes the importance of Chinese culture in helping to shape students’ lives. During the week of January 20th, Dalton held its first “Dalton Chinese Culture Week,” which aimed to provide students with the opportunity to experience, understand, and appreciate Chinese culture on a deeper level. From kindergarten to primary school, teachers provided students with a variety of cultural activities, such as writing couplets, drawing peach blossoms, singing new year songs, participating and viewing Chinese dance, as well as dragon and lion dances, viewing performances of the “twelve zodiac signs”, and tasting Chinese New Year food. This was all in addition to the creative ways that teachers regularly integrate Chinese cultural elements into other subject areas such as literacy, art, music, sports, and mathematics. All of these experiences help cultivate strong values within students that are rooted in Chinese culture and tradition.
We also held our first “Dalton Chinese New Year Temple Fair” on January 22nd at the West Kowloon campus. All Dalton students and parents were invited to visit the temple fair and celebrate the New Year! The temple fair provided children with a variety of choices including Cantonese opera, Dulcimer, Guzheng, paper cutting, flower arrangement, lion dance, Chinese dance, Chinese painting, blue and white porcelain art, dumpling making, candy canes, traditional games, fashion shows, and Feng Zikai- inspired art works. Dalton families also took this opportunity to gather together to celebrate 2020- the Year of the Rat!
We sincerely thank all of you for your continued support and trust in Dalton School, and we wish all Dalton families a “Happy New Year!” filled with good health and good luck!
